See? Another post!

I’m so proud of myself.   Here I go, proving I can post regularly.   (It takes so little for me to be proud of myself.  Sometimes all I have to do is shower and throw on a pair of jeans and a tee-shirt and I think, “Look at me! I’m dressed!” and I feel proud.  Low expectations are the key to satisfaction.)

Anyway, I wanted to talk a little more about my next 5 Spot novel, If You Lived Here, You’d Be Home Now. First of all, I want to show off the cover, which I LOVE:

Cute, right?  The dangling strap on the shoe that turns into the writing reminds me of the yarn on my first novel with Hachette, Knitting Under the Influence, and the color scheme evokes the cover of  The Smart One and the Pretty One. I like that they all tie together: they look nice on a shelf.  And hopefully anyone who likes the way one of the covers looks would also like the others.

As you can tell (I think) from the small shoes on the bottom step, the main character has a little boy, but she’s a very young mom–she was only nineteen when she had him.  The father took off long ago, so she’s living back at home with her parents and sleeping in her childhood bed, something not recommended if you’re trying to grow up and become independent.  In many ways, she and her six-year-old son are both trying to separate from their mommies–and sometimes in similar ways.

She may be only 25, but she’s a good mom and when her son complains that the PE coach at school is being mean to him, Rickie swings into action and tries to get her son out of a tough situation.  But soon it seems like maybe she’s misjudged the situation–and also the young male PE coach, who is thoughtful, kind . . .  and not unattractive.

There’s more to the story, of course, but I’m keeping my posts short!  Anyway, I only wanted to whet everyone’s appetite for this: it won’t be available for months.

I really like this cover.  You?

I like the cover! Those are some HIGH heels.

I’m looking forward to reading it. I had a bad experience with my son’s kindergarten PE teacher. When we were done with him that year I was so glad. I put him on a winter swim team this year and guess who the coach turns out to be? The PE teacher. I decided to stick with it and he has been great with my little guy this year.

Yeah, I once got furious with a PE coach for something and assumed he was a horrible human being–I met him later and he couldn’t have been nicer. I realized I overreacted.

Hey, wordpress now thinks I’m two separate people because I changed my email. Help!

I love the cover! And it does have a sort of familial resemblance to your other covers. Like siblings.
    Can we pre-order the book?

  7. Claire

the book is available for pre-order on Amazon. Thanks for asking, stranger whom I’ve never met before.

  8. Claire- I love the cover! It was the cover to The Smart One and The Pretty One that made me buy it, btw. I blogged about it 🙂 And the book sounds great. I already relate to the MC- not the being a young mom part, but the 25 and living at home part, yeah I totally get that. I can’t wait to buy it! Keep the posts coming!
